    Placements are a hugely valuable experience for undergraduates, a chance to put theory into practice. This practical experience will make a considerable difference to your CV when it comes to applying for permanent opportunities further down the line, whether that’s with Tata Steel or another employer.

    We offer 3 to 12 month placements to undergraduates across a number of our business areas.

    As a Process Control & Automation (PC&A) Engineer, you will use your knowledge of application computers, software, control and instrumentation technology to maintain our plants’ optimum performance.     As well as the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience during your placement period, Tata Steel also offers a very competitive benefits package, which includes a competitive salary. We place a great emphasis on establishing the right work-life balance for people who work here and therefore offer a full range of perks and schemes to support your wellbeing. This includes 25 days’ holidays (plus bank holidays on top). The annual allowance of 25 days will be pro-rated for the duration of your placement.

    In addition to a competitive salary during your placement in the UK, you’re eligible to apply for sponsorship from Tata Steel. This is a cash reward for performing to a high level during your placement and returning to the company in a graduate role.

    The Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers, in conjunction with Tata Steel, awards two scholarships of £3,000 to undergraduate students in recognition of excellence in the areas of engineering, metallurgy or technical work. This award is open to undergraduate students who, by the deadline date, have completed a placement in the past year (minimum of 3 months - summer period) at one of our UK business units. Students can apply by submitting a report (of no more than 1500 words), which has direct business relevance to Tata Steel and is about engineering, metallurgy or a technical subject.

    The Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers was formed in 1322 to control the standards and quality in armour making, metalworking and to maintain high standards within the industry. To continue the tradition of metal working and technical education, the Company encourages young people to study Materials Science, Metallurgy and Engineering and to work in those fields after they have graduated.
