Dextro Energy Triathlon London presented by Tata Steel

Tata Steel is the presenting partner of the International Triathlon Union World Championship London in Hyde Park over the weekend of the 24/25 July 2010.

Tata Steel has a long association with the sport of triathlon through its subsidiary Corus.  Corus is the corporate partner of the British Triathlon Federation and this event underlines the company’s commitment to helping develop the sport.

“Triathlon is a fast growing, modern Olympic sport and the ITU World Championship event in London is an important addition to the sport’s global calendar.  We are pleased to be involved in promoting this exciting sport in the UK through this major event, with its global standing in triathlon,” said Kirby Adams, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Steel Europe.

Corus supports the sport of triathlon at all levels including elite athletes and grassroots development.  Over the past four years nearly 25,000 children from across the UK have experienced the sport’s three disciplines of swimming, cycling and running through the Corus Kids of Steel mini triathlon series.  Corus has also been instrumental in developing paratriathlon as an internationally recognised sport.

The centrepiece of the Tata Steel VIP area will feature collaboration between Tata Steel and S² Corporation.  Taking the backdrop of elite sport and VIP hospitality as a starting point, Tata Steel and S² challenged teams of both architects and engineers to come up with a signature structure capable of temporarily transforming this key public space.

The brief called for a bespoke design that would showcase innovative steel design, but also show restraint in materials used.  The result is a structure which displays both a lightweight aesthetic and strength in equal measure. This is the first time post-tensioned steel has been used in temporary infrastructure in the UK. The outcome is a majestic venue, which can provide a wide-span space suitable to accommodate over 200 VIP guests and befits both a world-class venue and an elite sport.

The Hyde Park event will bring together companies from across the Tata Group when employees from Corus, Tetley and Jaguar Land Rover compete in a sprint triathlon ‘wave’ on Saturday morning.

The Tata Group employs over 350,000 people worldwide and has total market capitalisation of some $60 billion.  Tata companies operate in seven business sectors:  materials, engineering, information technology and communications, energy, services, consumer products and chemicals.  The Group’s flagship company Tata Steel secured a place among the top ten steel manufacturers in the world with the acquisition of Corus in 2007.  Other Group companies include Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Communications, Tata Power, Indian Hotels, Tata Tea and Tata Chemicals.  For more information visit: www.tata.com
