    Hi-Lite

    Hi-Lite is a series of ultra thin non-oriented electrical steels that opens up a new world of possibilities when designing high frequency applications. It helps you achieve harmony between size, weight, energy efficiency and performance

    Our ultra-thin-gauge electrical steel laminations already handle the highest rotational speeds recorded. Specified for the greenest hybrid vehicles, the most advanced vacuum cleaners and the fastest cars in the F1 circus, Hi-Lite puts a new spin on innovation

    For application frequencies beyond the standard 50 or 60 Hz, thinner steel may be needed to maintain low losses. The Hi-Lite range, available with a Suralac®7000 insulating coating, and now also with the Suralac®9000 bonding coating, has been optimized for medium to high fundamental frequencies (200 -2500 Hz) and harmonics up to about 25 kHz. For the most extreme applications, we have developed Hi-Lite NO 10, the thinnest wide strip electrical steel on the market.

    The special qualities of the Hi-Lite range are particularly relevant to today’s automotive industry. Global interest in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) is growing dramatically: the key technological enablers for these applications are electric machines (motors), along with their drive systems. Design optimization of electric motors for automotive applications has become an urgent priority.

    Magnetic losses

    Designers of high frequency motors and generators will see a significant reduction of magnetic losses when Hi-Lite grades are used instead of good standard gauge electrical steels.

     

     

     

    Space and Weight

    Individually optimised 80 kW internal permament magnet motors with the same efficiency using different steel grades. Demonstrating that space and weight can be saved by designing for higher speeds using thin gauge Hi-Lite grades. 

    We are also able to offer the standard electrical steel range for high efficiency motors.

    New coatings combine performance with environmental benefits

    At Cogent we believe that an environmentally responsible company is a successful company.  We ensure that our materials are produced in a safe and environmentally-friendly environment. This duty of care is carried forward into our products and their application. That’s why we offer:

    Chrome-free phosphate insulation coating. This coating is applied to our entire grain-oriented product range. It eliminates the risks from hexavalent chrome and delivers a superior insulation coating which is safe and environmentally friendly.

    Suralac 7000FF.  A formaldehyde-free, organic coating. This ensures a clean working environment in application, free from potentially hazardous fumes.

    Our new bonded coating, Suralac 9000, is now available for our thin gauge products. This coating may be heated to enable lamination stacks to bond together. This type of bonding delivers improved noise performance for large volume production of thin materials. It is compatible with other traditional insulation coatings.
