  • Speciality steels and bar

Our goal is to develop tomorrow’s products to solve today’s engineering challenges.

We specialise in carbon, alloy and stainless steels for demanding applications like aerospace, motorsports and oil and gas, producing bright bar, narrow strip and industrial bearings for customers around the world.

    • Durehete 1055: Bolting applications up to 570°C

Durehete 1055 from Tata Steel is the natural choice for all bolting applications at temperatures of up to 570°C.

Durehete 1055’s high temperate performance has been proven by over 50 years of in-service data and Durehete was the original equipment specification for Alstom (GEC) and Siemens (Parsons) powerplants.

    • HyPer grades: Enhanced properties for Oil & Gas

HyPer steel is our latest range of speciality steels for the oil & gas industry.

Manufactured in the UK, HyPer grades were developed in response to customer requirements for steels which deliver outstanding performance in the most demanding downhole tool environments and completion equipment.

    • Hitenspeed for high-strength applications

Our Hitenspeed range of steels are designed for high-strength applications that require enhanced machinability and responsiveness to surface engineering.

Specifically created to provide machinability benefits and consistent performance, they reduce through-costs, increase production rates, reduce distortion and require no heat treatment.

    Investment in integrated production

We operate integrated production facilities in the Sheffield area of the UK. These cover the entire manufacturing process - from the initial melting of recycled scrap, through rolling, to the inspection and dispatch of the final product.

Steelmaking and Sheffield have a long, historic association. But we recognise that we must continue to invest in our people and processes to keep at the forefront of steel technology and ever more demanding uses for our products. In the early part of the 21st century we have invested more than £20m in:

    • two additional vacuum arc re-melting (VAR) furnaces
    • a vacuum induction melting (VIM) facility

This ongoing cycle of investment resonates with the original steelmasters of Sheffield and Tata Steel’s heritage.

    Dedicated service centres

We employ more than 2,000 people. Our production centres in Sheffield and the West Midlands area of the UK are backed by dedicated service centres in Bolton, UK, Nagpur, India  and Suzhou and Xi’an in China.

Our service centres enable us to service our customers’ supply chains with:

    • bespoke combinations of added-value processing
    • just-in-time delivery

Tata Steel’s global network of sales offices means that, wherever you are in the world, you can deal directly with us.

    Corporate social responsibility

As throughout Tata Steel, corporate social responsibility lies at the heart of our activities. All of our sites carry the ISO 14001 environmental accreditation. We are committed to:

    • safety via our ‘Safety First’ programme
    • employee development - including the recruitment of apprentices to our award-winning internal training schemes
    • local community initiatives such as the Steel Valley project in Stocksbridge, UK
