Specialist technologies

These projects have resulted in a portfolio of technologies. By integrating many of these technologies customers have:

• Significantly reduced the cost of refurbishing equipment through extending the machine life and reliability
• Achieved better product quality through improved spray pattern cooling control
• Reduced internal defects by better alignment techniques and devices
• Improved roll wear by improved material selection
• Extended copper mould plate performance via optimised cooling profiles and hot face coatings

Technologies available:-

• Castcoat
  A proven technology which increases the life of continuous caster mould plates by up to 6 times.
• Envirolube
  A low grease consumption bearing system which has been specifically designed for use with continuous caster rolls.
• Mould Thermal Monitoring (MTM)
  Used to diagnose mould solidification problems, proving invaluable when optimising operational practices and protecting the casting machine from breakouts.
• Bath Agitation
  Two tuyeres can provide acceptable stirring throughout the life of the vessel and will give a more economic gas consumption.
• Caster Oscillation Checks
  Correct mould oscillation is critical for the production of high quality steel slabs. We can supply equipment and training to enable caster operators to check and verify correct oscillation, or our engineers can conduct oscillation checks on site.
