'Bring' schemes

With thousands of can banks or multi-material banks collecting steel cans across the UK, ‘bring’ schemes play an important role in supporting local authorities’ recycling strategies.

Steel cans collected using ‘bring’ systems are cleaner and less contaminated than those collected from the mixed domestic waste stream. As a result, they are more suitable for the steel making process and have the highest market worth, along with kerbside separated material.

Cost-effective and highly visible

Bring schemes are cost-effective to install and are highly visible. Mixed can collection schemes are also easy for consumers to use, and provide local authorities with the opportunity to increase recycling levels for all steel packaging.

A wide variety of can banks is available to purchase, including Hiab, FEL (front end loader), REL (rear end loader), mini, modular and wheelie bins. The key to running these fixed site containers efficiently is to keep transport costs low by minimising emptying rounds.

The 14 cubic yard skip is another popular choice; when full, it can hold up to 0.7 tonnes of mixed packaging. To help reduce costs, an empty bank can be delivered and left onsite when collecting a full skip for servicing, saving time and reducing operational costs.

How we can help

We can help by providing a stable and economic market for this material through the CanRoute system. [link to 2.2 CanRoute]
