The Tata Steel Group supports an extremely wide range of cultural, social, educational and sporting activities that benefit local communities and society in general.
As well as contributing financially, we often assist in organising and lend our expertise and resources.
In 2008, we became a sponsor of Telstar football club, near the IJmuiden works in the Netherlands, helping to improve facilities at the club’s stadium in Velsen. This was in addition to the sponsorship of AZ, the Dutch football club and national champions of 2008/09.
The Tata Steel Chess Tournament, one of the world’s leading chess competitions, takes place annually in Wijk aan Zee in the Netherlands. The tournament takes place in January/February each year and often attracts many of the world’s top players, while local people and employees can also take part in the tournament’s amateur competitions.
In the UK, we are the corporate partner of the British Triathlon Federation. We are committed to the development of Britain's triathletes from grassroots level through to potential Olympic champions. We place a strong emphasis on community-based projects, in particular the popular Kids of Steel events, which have introduced triathlon to thousands of schoolchildren of all ages.

Tata Steel Chess Tournament
The Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2012 is taking place from January 13-29. It is one of the most important tournaments in the chess calendar. In addition to the grandmaster groups there are many satellite events for amateurs.
