In the depths of Northampton, Sainsbury’s and ProLogis embarked on a groundbreaking mission to construct a distribution depot that set new standards for environmentally friendly design in industrial real estate. Based in Pineham, the 618,500 sq ft distribution centre was developed by ProLogis using a number of advanced features designed to markedly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions at the site. Indeed, architect, RPS Burks Green, estimates that carbon emissions will be reduced by at least 50 per cent, with the overall operation being up to 75 per cent more energy-efficient than a standard warehouse facility.
