    Mechanical Apprenticeships

    The role of mechanical craftsperson can vary greatly, depending on the plant and location of your department. Daily activities range from planned and preventative maintenance to fault finding and problem solving when things go wrong, ensuring the plant and its manufacturing units perform to their maximum. Structured training will enable you to work on a large variety of mechanical equipment from large cranes, heavy machinery (e.g. gearboxes, pumps, bearings), to complex hydraulic equipment or machining components in our engineering workshops. A mechanical craftsperson needs to be flexible, knowledgeable and highly motivated.
     

    Laboratory Apprenticeships

    The Technical team in Tata Steel look after the development of new products and ensure the quality of our manufacturing processes. It’s a varied and diverse function with responsibilities ranging from chemical and metallurgical testing in laboratories to providing technical expertise to our wide range of customers in the automotive, construction and domestic appliance industries.

    Finance Apprenticeships

    As a Customer Services apprentice you will use data and information about customer orders to maximise customer satisfaction.

    Supply Chain Management Apprenticeships

    As a Supply Chain Management apprentice you will use data and information about out supply chain to maximise delivery performance and positively impact upon customer satisfaction. You will be required to fully immerse yourself in the Supply Chain ways of working at Tata Steel.
    During the training programme, apprentices will learn about the processes and roles within the Supply Chain department. You will be given a strong overview of the business products, procedures and services that we provide. The supply chain management apprenticeship will be based at both Port Talbot and Llanwern in Newport. Travel will be required between both sites.



    Higher Apprenticeships

    Procurement Higher Apprenticeship

    Broadly speaking, our Procurement team manages our external spend with a wide range of partners and suppliers. We work with a network of over 5,000 suppliers globally, covering an extensive range of goods and services such as refractories, scrap, electrical, mechanical, facilities management and packaging.
    Our aim is always to inspire and drive sustainable relationships with our partners, as well as through our own organisation – so our Procurement professionals need strong communication, relationship/project management and negotiation skills.  You’ll be exposed to real science from the outset and we expect you to relish the opportunity to show us what you’re made of. 
    As part of the Tata Steel Procurement Apprentice Scheme you will have a unique opportunity to gain a broad experience across the diverse areas of the Procurement function. Your time on the Apprentice Scheme will be spent mainly in Port Talbot, with some travel to other sites may be required

    Human Resources Higher Apprenticeship

    Success in a competitive marketplace depends on having the right people with the relevant skills in the right positions. The Human Resources team makes this happen, ensuring that the business attracts, supports, develops and retains the best people. It’s a diverse and expansive remit, covering everything from Selection & Recruitment through to Employee Relations. Whether your interest is in general HR or in specialising within a centre of expertise, we’ll give you the opportunity to engage with different disciplines to further your career development including rotations within the department and throughout the UK.

    As part of the Tata Steel Human Resources Apprentice Scheme you will have a unique opportunity to gain a broad experience across the diverse areas of the Human Resources function. Your time on the apprentice scheme will be spent mainly in Port Talbot with some travel to other sites may be required.


    IT Higher Apprenticeship


    The manufacture of world-leading steel products is underpinned by cutting-edge technology. Our ICT team is responsible for the Information Technology our employees use to do their jobs, from the business systems that power the back office to the front line support and operation systems. ICT manage information use throughout the business, ensuring the safety, availability and integrity of all forms of data and structures that support it.

    As part of the Tata Steel IT Higher Apprentice Scheme you will have a unique opportunity to gain a broad experience across the diverse areas of the IT function. Your time on the Apprentice Scheme will be spent mainly in Port Talbot, however some travel to other sites may be required. 


    Engineering Higher Apprenticeship

    An Engineering higher apprenticeship within Tata Steel offers an exciting training programme in varied environments and locations.
    Our higher apprenticeship programme offers excellent opportunities for individuals who want to apply and develop their academic qualifications in a practical, real world setting. It offers a mix of on the job experience and practice-based learning, backed up by a thorough programme of formal training.

    Material Science Higher Apprenticeships

    Our Material Science apprentices will work within our Technical function, which ensures that our products meet and exceed our customers’ exacting needs, both now and in the future. The roles are varied but the challenge is always the same: to develop and improve every grade of steel, so that it’s ready to meet the challenges of every possible application, from electrical use to aerospace and beyond. Technical excellence is at the heart of everything we do, underpinning areas including quality assurance, laboratory management, non-destructive testing, metallurgical investigations and supply chain. Whilst there’s plenty of scope for independent working, you could just as easily find yourself in a customer-facing role, working alongside Commercial and Supply chain colleagues, liaising with Research & Development, or collaborating with our Operational teams.

    Apprenticeships in North Wales

    Shotton

    At Shotton we offer a three IET accredited apprenticeship opportunities within manufacturing, manufacturing engineering and laboratory. These include opportunities to specialise in mechanical, electrical, instrumental, process or machinist disciplines. It’s an opportunity to be part of an apprenticeship where you can learn and study towards an NVQ and BTEC Level 3 qualifications whilst gaining invaluable practical work experience.

    Requirements

    To be eligible for our Apprentice Programme you must have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, 5 GCSEs at grade C / 4 or above, including English, Maths and Science.

    Training provider

    TTE is a leading training provider that offers training on behalf of a range of companies in the metals, chemical, petrochemical, process, power, paper, pharmaceutical, nuclear and oil and gas industries throughout the North West. TTE provide a three and a half year multi skilled apprenticeship which is a work based training programme where you gain both practical experience at the TTE training centre and on site at Tata Steel Colors in Shotton. During this time you will have the opportunity to study for nationally recognised qualifications.

    Apprenticeships

    Manufacturing Apprenticeships

    Employed by Tata Steel you will attend TTE full time for two years. From your third year you will be based on site at Shotton whilst continuing your apprenticeship and education. On successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be offered a full time position with Tata Steel.
    During years 1 and 2 you will be based at TTE and will study for the following qualifications:
    • Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Operations and Maintenance Engineering;
    • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Process Engineering Maintenance;
    • Level 2 Functional skills;
    • RoSPA H&S Basic Certificate;
    In year 3 you will be based at Tata Steel in Shotton and you will have the option to study for a Higher National Certificate where appropriate.

    Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeships

    Employed by Tata Steel you will attend TTE full time for one and a half years. You will then be based on site at Shotton whilst continuing your apprenticeship and education. On successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be offered a one year fixed term contract with Tata Steel, with the aim of progressing into a permanent role after that.
    During years 1 and 2 you will study for the following qualifications:
    • Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Operations and Maintenance Engineering

    Apprenticeships in East Midlands

    Corby

    Within Corby we recruit apprentices into both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. An apprentice in Electrical Engineering will study the uses of electricity and equipment for power generation and distribution and the control of machines and communication systems. Mechanical Engineers design, build, install and maintain mechanical machinery, components and tools. As a Tata Steel apprentice you will learn how to identify different components, learn how they work and how to maintain them on plant.

    The Engineering apprenticeship scheme at Corby is an in-depth programme providing you with the skills and expertise required to become an electrical or mechanical engineer.

    Manufacturing Apprenticeships (Apply)

    Our Manufacturing function plays a vital role in our business.     Apprenticeships in West Midlands

    Applications for Wednesfield apprentice vacancies will open on Friday 11th January 2019.

    Wednesfield

    Our Steelpark site in Wednesfield is home to our large distribution centre. The site is home to an Automotive Service Centre, Slitting Centre, Light Gauge and Profiling Centre and employs around 600 employees. We will soon be looking to recruit Customer Services and Manufacturing apprentices to be part of this large-scale logistics hub.


    Electrical Apprenticeships (Apply)

    The role of the Steelpark electrical maintenance engineers is to effectively maintain all process and auxiliary equipment within the three business units with an aim to improve the time these machines are working while reducing costs.
    The Electrical Engineering apprentices will develop the required skills and knowledge to support the operations team to perform repairs to breakdowns and taking part in preventative maintenance. They will learn how to engineer solutions to enable process improvement to contribute to the enhancement of productivity within the business.


    Commercial Apprenticeships (Apply)

    The Commercial Apprentice roles will spend time in the different teams within Distribution based at Steelpark. They will learn about a range of operational areas to gain a full overview of processes within the business. The main part of the apprenticeship will be spent in the Sales and Customer Services teams to help them develop the required knowledge and skills to deal with customer enquiries and support the Sales team.


    Manufacturing Apprenticeships

    The Manufacturing Apprentices will undertake a range of duties to support the manufacturing operations. They will work within the different operating businesses to learn all about the varied processes within Steelpark. Working within the manufacturing teams to support the delivery of team objectives, the apprentices will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

    Apprenticeships at Hartlepool

    At our Hartlepool site we are looking to recruit Apprentices in the following disciplines:

    Stage 1 - Application Form

    You must apply online for all vacancies.

    You can complete your application during one session, or you can log in and out of your account at your convenience and complete the forms in stages if you wish. Please ensure that you press APPLY before the closing date.

    Important Hints and Tips
    Please complete all parts of the application form. 
    Don’t forget the quality of your application is the first impression the company will have of you, therefore, before you submit your application please ensure the following:

    Short-listing Criteria
    Short-listing will be conducted via the following criteria:

    •    Following the Application Deadline, candidates will be informed of the outcome of their application within 2 weeks.


    Stage 2 – Online Aptitude Tests

    Should you be successful following the short-listing of the application forms, you will be invited via email to complete a series of online general aptitude tests.

    These tests will be used to assess you in the following areas: Verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and spatial awareness tests based on the apprenticeship you have chosen. Once we have reviewed all the test scores, should you meet our criteria you will be invited to the next stage of our selection process. Should you be successful and invited to undertake the aptitude tests it is essential that you complete these tests within the given timescale. Following completion of online tests, candidates will be informed of the outcome within two weeks.


    Stage 3 – Interview

    Should you be successful at the general aptitude test stage, you will be invited to attend an interview at one of our sites.

    This interview will be a Competency Based and Function Specific Interview. You will receive an email with the time and date of your interview. Alternative arrangements will only be made in extenuating circumstances. 
    It is essential that you bring with you the following documents:

    •    Certificate as proof of exam results completed as claimed on your application form (if already achieved).
    •    Should you be awaiting your exam results, a certificate as proof will be required at that time.
    •    Proof of eligibility to work in the UK, in the form of a Valid Passport, or Birth Certificate and National Insurance Card

    Following attendance at interview, candidates will be informed of our decision within two weeks.

    Our Material Science apprentices will work within our Technical function, which ensures that our products meet and exceed our customers’ exacting needs, both now and in the future. The roles are varied but the challenge is always the same: to develop and improve every grade of steel, so that it’s ready to meet the challenges of every possible application, from electrical use to aerospace and beyond. Technical excellence is at the heart of everything we do, underpinning areas including quality assurance, laboratory management, non-destructive testing, metallurgical investigations and supply chain. Whilst there’s plenty of scope for independent working, you could just as easily find yourself in a customer-facing role, working alongside Commercial and Supply chain colleagues, liaising with Research & Development, or collaborating with our Operational teams.

    Shotton

    At Shotton we offer a three IET accredited apprenticeship opportunities within manufacturing, manufacturing engineering and laboratory. These include opportunities to specialise in mechanical, electrical, instrumental, process or machinist disciplines. It’s an opportunity to be part of an apprenticeship where you can learn and study towards an NVQ and BTEC Level 3 qualifications whilst gaining invaluable practical work experience.

    Requirements

    To be eligible for our Apprentice Programme you must have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, 5 GCSEs at grade C / 4 or above, including English, Maths and Science.

    Training provider

    TTE is a leading training provider that offers training on behalf of a range of companies in the metals, chemical, petrochemical, process, power, paper, pharmaceutical, nuclear and oil and gas industries throughout the North West. TTE provide a three and a half year multi skilled apprenticeship which is a work based training programme where you gain both practical experience at the TTE training centre and on site at Tata Steel Colors in Shotton. During this time you will have the opportunity to study for nationally recognised qualifications.

    Apprenticeships

    Manufacturing Apprenticeships

    Employed by Tata Steel you will attend TTE full time for two years. From your third year you will be based on site at Shotton whilst continuing your apprenticeship and education. On successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be offered a full time position with Tata Steel.
    During years 1 and 2 you will be based at TTE and will study for the following qualifications:
    • Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Operations and Maintenance Engineering;
    • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Process Engineering Maintenance;
    • Level 2 Functional skills;
    • RoSPA H&S Basic Certificate;
    In year 3 you will be based at Tata Steel in Shotton and you will have the option to study for a Higher National Certificate where appropriate.

    Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeships

    Employed by Tata Steel you will attend TTE full time for one and a half years. You will then be based on site at Shotton whilst continuing your apprenticeship and education. On successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be offered a one year fixed term contract with Tata Steel, with the aim of progressing into a permanent role after that.
    During years 1 and 2 you will study for the following qualifications:

    Corby

    Within Corby we recruit apprentices into both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. An apprentice in Electrical Engineering will study the uses of electricity and equipment for power generation and distribution and the control of machines and communication systems. Mechanical Engineers design, build, install and maintain mechanical machinery, components and tools. As a Tata Steel apprentice you will learn how to identify different components, learn how they work and how to maintain them on plant.

    Applications for Wednesfield apprentice vacancies will open on Friday 11th January 2019.

    Wednesfield

    Our Steelpark site in Wednesfield is home to our large distribution centre. The site is home to an Automotive Service Centre, Slitting Centre, Light Gauge and Profiling Centre and employs around 600 employees. We will soon be looking to recruit Customer Services and Manufacturing apprentices to be part of this large-scale logistics hub.


    Electrical Apprenticeships (Apply)

    The role of the Steelpark electrical maintenance engineers is to effectively maintain all process and auxiliary equipment within the three business units with an aim to improve the time these machines are working while reducing costs.
    The Electrical Engineering apprentices will develop the required skills and knowledge to support the operations team to perform repairs to breakdowns and taking part in preventative maintenance. They will learn how to engineer solutions to enable process improvement to contribute to the enhancement of productivity within the business.


    Commercial Apprenticeships (Apply)

    The Commercial Apprentice roles will spend time in the different teams within Distribution based at Steelpark. They will learn about a range of operational areas to gain a full overview of processes within the business. The main part of the apprenticeship will be spent in the Sales and Customer Services teams to help them develop the required knowledge and skills to deal with customer enquiries and support the Sales team.


    Manufacturing Apprenticeships

    The Manufacturing Apprentices will undertake a range of duties to support the manufacturing operations. They will work within the different operating businesses to learn all about the varied processes within Steelpark. Working within the manufacturing teams to support the delivery of team objectives, the apprentices will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

    Stage 1 - Application Form

    Short-listing Criteria

    Stage 2 – Online Aptitude Tests

    These tests will be used to assess you in the following areas: Verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and spatial awareness tests based on the apprenticeship you have chosen. Once we have reviewed all the test scores, should you meet our criteria you will be invited to the next stage of our selection process. Should you be successful and invited to undertake the aptitude tests it is essential that you complete these tests within the given timescale. Following completion of online tests, candidates will be informed of the outcome within two weeks.


    Stage 3 – Interview

    Should you be successful at the general aptitude test stage, you will be invited to attend an interview at one of our sites.

    This interview will be a Competency Based and Function Specific Interview. You will receive an email with the time and date of your interview. Alternative arrangements will only be made in extenuating circumstances. 
    It is essential that you bring with you the following documents:

    •    Certificate as proof of exam results completed as claimed on your application form (if already achieved).
    •    Should you be awaiting your exam results, a certificate as proof will be required at that time.
    •    Proof of eligibility to work in the UK, in the form of a Valid Passport, or Birth Certificate and National Insurance Card

    Following attendance at interview, candidates will be informed of our decision within two weeks.
