The group of Year 6 pupils aged between 10 and 11, were required to recruit a team, design and manufacture their entry as well as raise funds to help them produce a vehicle and portfolio, all with minimal help from teaching staff.

Groes Primary’s Turbo Tastic team were the only primary school from the Neath Port Talbot area to enter the competition at Swansea Waterfront Museum. Each member of the team had their own individual role to play and each took their responsibilities very seriously. Their effort and preparation for the competition was all worthwhile especially when the judging panel scrutinised and assessed all aspects of their entry.

Year 6 teacher, Mrs Jenny Tomkins commented: “The FI schools competition is an amazing opportunity for the pupils to develop and learn many new skills, as well as gain a brief insight into the world of engineering.
Jenny added: “At each stage, from the initial design through to presenting to a judging panel, the pupil’s confidence grew. The pupils remained enthused and engaged throughout the project - we are extremely proud of their efforts. “

Unfortunately Turbo Tastic’s entry wasn’t the quickest on the day. Nevertheless the team were full of pride for their entry and excelled at the chance to take place in the competition.
 
Community Liaison Manager, Sharon Jones commented: “Through our Future Generations Programme we were able to offer a donation to Turbo Tastic to assist with their brilliant entry.  The team were certainly put through their paces by the judging panel and each member of the team did themselves and their school proud!”
