Homogeneous quality steel for fast and clean laser cutting

For the first time in Germany, Tata Steel is offering its high-strength low-alloy Ympress Laser® steel grade via distributors MCB Group and ESB European Steel Business Group. Developed for efficient laser cutting, the steel grade is available in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and southern Germany. Tata Steel has worked with MCB and ESB to develop local delivery concepts to suit the needs of companies in Germany with laser cutting facilities to simplify their supply.

A longstanding partner and metals wholesaler with its own service centres, MCB is supplying Ympress Laser to customers in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony from its facility in Neuss. Customers in southern Germany are supplied by ESB from its facility in Speyer. MCB and ESB are the direct contact points for all technical queries relating to material properties as well as the types and dimensions available.

“Being a long-term partner with Tata Steel for Ympress Laser, we are delighted to offer this steel to our German customers, as we are seeing growing demand in the market for laser-optimised steel grades,” says Will Derkx from MCB. “The inclusion of Ympress Laser in the range offered by ESB Süd-Deutschland enhances our product line-up,” says Alfred Smit from the ESB Group.

Ympress Laser was developed  for efficient, high-speed laser cutting. The hot-rolled steel combines excellent flatness with an outstanding surface finish, which ensures uninterrupted laser cutting, delivering better productivity and product quality. It is ideally suited for subsequent use in the manufacture of machinery and agricultural equipment as well as the production of heavy duty vehicles, cranes and other construction equipment.

The relationship between Tata Steel, MCB and ESB is based on experience and reliability, ensuring that Ympress Laser will reach its customers in first-class condition. The close collaboration also ensures that customer requirements are fed back into the mill and into the research and development process to facilitate needs-based ongoing development.

Jochem Niermeijer, Marketing Manager for Tata Steel in Europe says: “Through this new cooperation with MCB and ESB, Tata Steel is ensuring that steel users in Germany can quickly and easily call off our Ympress Laser grades from stock. Our priority is to meet the needs of our customers who benefit from fast production turnaround without the need to hold large material inventories.”
