  • “Let’s talk about the future”: Tata Steel invites visitors to discuss mutual future challenges and opportunities

    17 Oct 2019 | Trade News

As markets become ever more complex, Tata Steel remains well prepared thanks to its focus on close customer relationships and its strategic objectives to be a pioneer in sustainability and digitalisation.

With this year’s motto ‘Let's talk about the future’, the company invites customers and other visitors to its Blechexpo stand (Hall 10, Stand 10408) to discuss individual solutions for the challenges of the future.

In addition to personal discussions, Tata Steel’s stand will focus on its latest innovative products and services, that support sustainable solutions for customers.

Tata Steel is increasingly using digital elements for its trade show presence. This year a ‘Skype-Ecke’ (means: Skype corner) will give visitors the opportunity to chat remotely with Tata Steel specialists at any time, offering key insights where needed. In addition, they can have a virtual tour through one of Tata Steel’s modern production facilities using VR glasses.

As one of the pioneers of digitalisation in the steel industry, Tata Steel is making a contribution to the hot topic of ‘Advanced Analytics’ at Blechexpo. Dr. Ir. Menno van der Winden, General Manager Advanced Analytics at Tata Steel, will present Tata Steel’s concept both at ‘Expertentreff’ (on the evening of 5 November) and at the ‘Forum’ (on 6 November). He will demonstrate how the company is successfully using intelligent analysis tools at its plant in IJmuiden, the Netherlands, to harness extensive and complex data volumes in processes, thereby minimising scrap and optimising yield. Tata Steel recently received recognition for this approach from the World Economic Forum and McKinsey with the prestigious ‘Lighthouse Factory Award‘.

Tata Steel is already one of the most CO2-efficient integrated steel companies in the world. However, as well as setting the ambitious goal of becoming a carbon-neutral steelmaker by 2050, the company wants to empower customers on their journey to decarbonisation too.

As in many other aspects, this is reflected in two new products, recently added to the portfolio: Valast® 450 and XPF®1000, that Tata Steel is also presenting at Blechexpo.

Valast 450 is a new high-endurance steel sheet with typical hardness of 450 HBW for use in equipment which suffers from high abrasion wear (e.g. containers, asphalt pavers or excavator buckets) developed in close collaboration with world leading OEMs. By extending the product life of these applications, Tata Steel supports customers to become even more sustainable. Tata Steel is the first company to offer this abrasion-resistant strip product in special dimensions from 2.0 - 12 mm thick and 1,000 - 2,000 mm wide.

The recently introduced XPF1000 was developed to meet customer requirements for use in lightweight automotive applications. This ultra-high-strength steel combines exceptionally good formability with high strength and optimised processing efficiency. By maximizing the light-weighting potential of automotive parts, the XPF product family enables efficient use of steel, while also helping to reduce tailpipe emissions. XPF1000 extends this range to the 1000MPa level. It can be used in a wide set of applications such as chassis and suspension components, seating, interior and body-in-white.

Tata Steel backs up its ambitions by significant investments in sites in the Netherlands, the UK and Belgium, to expand its production capabilities of high-quality steels. The investments will help customers realise their ambitions by providing high performance and ultra-high strength steels for the most demanding applications.

“Tata Steel is ready to meet the challenges of our rapidly changing world,” said Henrik Adam, CEO Tata Steel in Europe. “We have always enjoyed close partnerships with our customers, and we understand their needs. Our motto ‘Let’s talk about the future’ for this trade fair reflects this. We have become steel industry leaders in sustainability and digitalisation and we are convinced we can help our customers in dealing with these complex future challenges.”
