    Serica® is our premium surface finish applied to hot-dip galvanised grades for exposed automotive panels.

    With a high peak count, low roughness and a guaranteed low waviness after forming, it offers the highest possible surface quality and paint appearance for hoods, doors, fenders and body sides.

    Serica is available at different guaranteed waviness levels, allowing paint engineers to choose the required waviness for (adjacent) parts with different paint appearance requirements. This enables not only an optimised paint appearance of individual parts but also to achieve a perfect harmony in the overall paint appearance of the vehicle.

      Steels with the new Serica surface finish enable a consistently excellent paint finish, even when thinner or fewer paint layers are used. Combined with the cost-effective process of hot-dip coating, Serica offers you significant total cost of ownership benefits.

      Its predictable and finely-balanced surface typography delivers excellent conditions for consistent paint appearance - and a higher paint shop yield.

      Compared to standard hot-dip galvanised grades, the Serica surface finish reduces the ‘orange peel’ effect commonly visible on painted exposed panels.

    Surface quality

    Serica is the highest possible surface quality for hot-dip galvanised steels as it provides an optimisation of the long wave surface structures of the steel in addition to the controlled quality level that is provided by the MC quality standard.
     

    Oiling

    The material surface is oiled with preservative oil. The amount of supplied oil ranges from 0.5 g/m2 to 2.0 g/m2. Other types of oils or different levels are available upon request.

     

    Relationship with standards

    Grade availability for Serica 35, 32 and 29

    Serica 35 and Serica 32 are available on all hot-dip galvanised forming and bake hardening steels and are in development for the interstitial free grades. Serica 29 is currently available on BH180 and under development for BH220 and BH260.
