Inspiring inclusion on International Women's Day

International Women's Day celebrations at Corby

Men and women across Tata Steel UK have celebrated International Women's Day 2024 with a series of talks, discussions, interviews, photos, videos and social media posts around this year's theme of #InspiringInclusion.

The important role of women in industry has long been promoted in Tata Steel UK, with school visits to encourage girls to study STEM subjects, an internal group called the Steel Women's Network, and the Women of Steel podcast series.

Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Nair shared his support and appreciation on International Women’s Day. He said: “As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength and resilience of all women around the world. We celebrate the incredible women in our lives both inside and outside of our organisation who continue to break barriers, defy stereotypes, inspire change, and shape the world around them.

"Tata Steel UK is a better place for your strength, talent and dedication, and for that I am grateful."

“The theme this year is to inspire inclusion, which is incredibly important, because when every member of a team or society feels valued, feels included, feels that they belong, it is the catalyst for collective creativity, collaboration and success. May we continue to uplift, empower and support each other every day.”

PR and Social Media Specialist, Abi Thomas, who hosted two panel discussions with internal and external speakers said: "Across every one of our UK sites we have had people coming together to celebrate the role of women in our industry and to discuss the importance of role models.

"While our panel discussions focused on women in sport, there are a lot of similarities between the world of sport and the world of work - it was great to have hundreds of people joining those discussions, which hopefully will continue in workplaces across the business.

"As a woman in industry, I find it so encouraging that my company it putting so much energy and support into such topics."

The company also made a special video for the day, featuring many of the fantastic women of steel who are so proud to be part of such an iconic industry
