The slitter and associated expansion at the steel producer’s Ruhr-based Steel Service Center in Gelsenkirchen, Germany was officially inaugurated today after an investment of €9.5 million. As well as raising the service centre’s capacity, the new line will also expand its processing capabilities.

Tata Steel Group today declared its Consolidated Financial Results for the nine months and third quarter ended December 31, 2013. The positive earnings momentum continued even in a seasonally weak period as the Group net profits for the third quarter came in at Rs.503 crores compared to the net loss of Rs.763 crores in the previous year while the net profit for the first nine months of this year was Rs.2,559 crores compared to the loss of Rs.529 crores in the first nine months of the previous year.

Tata Steel has won a two-year contract to supply more than 200,000 tonnes of track to French rail operator SNCF. The contract will see Tata Steel supply the majority of SNCF’s rail requirements in lengths of up to 108 metres from its plant in Hayange, Northern France.
