Richard Burton road race set to be biggest in its history

The iconic Tata Steel Richard Burton 10k road race and family fun run is set to be one of the biggest races in its 34 year history!

With more than 700 runners expected in the main race and 250 in the family fun run, it will certainly be a busy Sunday in Cwmafan. There will also be some familiar faces amongst the runners with Shaun Holley signing up and Stephen Kinnock MP set to run for his third year.

As always a large proportion of race proceeds will be donated to charitable organisations, with a focus on those groups and clubs in close proximity to Cwmafan and those working with and encouraging children and young people to get active. Last year over £6,000 was donated to various clubs including, Cwmafan and Pontrhydyfen RFC mini sections, the Matthew Mizen foundation, Port Talbot Gateway Club, Cwmafan Scouts and Western Beacons Mountain Rescue.

There will be entertainment following the race at Cwmafan RFC from ‘Pollen Count’ and ‘Jeri and the Beats’ bands with food and drink available to purchase behind the bar.

Chairman of the race committee, and Tata Steel employee Shaun Tobin comments “I have been involved in this race for a number of years and have seen it go from strength to strength. It is a community event with a heart and we aim to give as much to local charities as possible with an emphasis on getting children and young people active. Entry is still open online, it would be great to get to a thousand runners over the line, the more runners we see the more we are able to donate to charity.'

Nia Singleton, Community Liaison Manager for Tata Steel in Wales adds: “We have sponsored this race for over 10 years and know how much this race brings to the local community. Its ethos of giving to charity and promoting healthy, active lives, is certainly one of our foundation values and we are proud to be able to support this race and all that it represents.”

Entry is still open online, visit www.fullonsport.com for registration details.
