Building the city of tomorrow.

  • From infrastructure to buildings, steel is an integral part of our cities and communities.  
  • We make steel products used to capture renewable energy, transforming buildings into their own power stations.
  • We contribute by providing lighter weight, higher strength steel elements which are easily installed and maintained.
  • Energy reduction: high reflective Colorcoat® coatings and high performance and sandwich panels in combination with our airtight joint design, enable energy reduction during use, increasing the sustainability of buildings and reducing operational carbon. 
  • Modular building developments: Tata Steel is developing housing systems, based on “platform technology”, which could provide quality, adaptable modular designs, allowing householders to upgrade and customise homes whist reducing material requirements to do so.
  • Durability/Flexibility: the durability and flexibility of our steel construction products makes them very well suited to a circular economy. Our coating technologies enable extremely durable and long lasting products.
  • With steel we are creating adaptable buildings which can be reconfigured to have many different uses throughout their lifetime.

Partnering with architects and developers.

Using digital tools such as building information modelling (BIM), Tata Steel is enabling buildings to be built more efficiently and safely, with full product traceability.  

One new step is to create buildings from a small number of standard designs with a standard set of parts. This enable them to be built largely offsite, reducing time and waste. Tata Steel is partnering with architects and developers to explore this exciting lower carbon ‘platform’ method of construction further.  

In our homes, steel for packaging is well-known for its extreme durability. It is widely recycled and has the highest rate of packaging recycling - 80% - in Europe. New innovations are seeing it replace single-use packaging in more and more applications.
