In 2008, work began on the expansion and modernisation of the Czajka Sewage Plant in North East Warsaw. Czajka, occupying a site of 129 acres, had been operational since 1991. The complex modernisation project was completed in 2010. It included the construction of new buildings for sewage sludge treatment and disposal and the installation of an advanced thermal waste treatment system.

The modernised Czajka Sewage Plant incorporates the latest technology including a superdurable pre-finished steel for the interior of the new sewage treatment building. The plant operator chose the high-performing Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® pre-finished steel from Tata Steel for this demanding application. The system was profiled and supplied by Pruszynski Sp.

The challenge

Sewage treatment produces an extremely corrosive environment that can quickly cause severe deterioration of internal walls and ceilings. At Czajka Sewage Plant there is a constant and intense supply of oxygen from the purification process used in the primary treatment of waste water. All components of the building housing this process are continuously exposed to this aggressively corrosive environment.

To ensure long-term durability and resistance to corrosion, Czajka needed a proven and high performing pre-finished steel product for the interior of the building.
