Enstedværket, a combined heat and power plant located at the Aabenraa Fjord in Denmark, was first established in 1979. Being Northern Europe's largest and deepest port of embarkation for coal and oil, the salt in the air combined with particles and heat, caused extensive corrosion on the original façade panels of the main boiler house building, which needed to be replaced.

The challenge

The client DONG Energy A/S needed to replace the 10,000m² of façade panels with a product that offered as long a life as possible. 

The solution

Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® was mounted to the existing framework of the building to produce façades in excess of 80m in height. Due to the harsh internal and external environment double sided Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® was specified for its robustness and resistance to many chemicals and substances.

Torben Høeg, chairman of the assembly team was impressed by the ease and speed in which the façade panels were installed from ground level all the way up to the higher elevations. The 6m long panels were hoisted into place using a three-man team and following a laser beam to maintain the accuracy of the lines. “It's nice to work with. The panels made with Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® tolerate handling during the construction process and the weight is low” says Torben Høeg.

DONG Energy's project manager and engineer Maria Petersen wanted a product with a long a life as possible, 

"We chose Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra because of its unique properties. This is a long term investment, which is expected to withstand environmental impacts for many years without annual inspections or maintenance to validate the Confidex Guarantee."
