The power station is a purpose-built combined steam and natural gas-fired (CCGT) operation on the outskirts of Dublin at Finglas, fed by pipeline with gas from both the UK and Ireland. It has a capacity of 343MW and is capable of supplying 17% of the Republic’s electricity needs. Construction began at Huntstown in December 2000 and the station went into commercial operation in November 2002. The second phase of generation at Huntstown was completed in 2009.
