Tata Steel delivers more protection with Confidex® update

From October 2020 onwards, Tata Steel will extend its industry leading  that covers the use of clip and fix photovoltaic (PV) modules.

The updated addendum will now also be issued automatically with the registration of a  Confidex® Guarantee, reaffirming the company’s commitment to providing building owners with total peace of mind.

Nearly 30 years ago, the Confidex® Guarantee revolutionised how warranties were offered in the building envelope market. Now, the industry leading guarantee has been updated to more accurately reflect modern building requirements where PV systems are being fitted to both roofs and walls. To this end, the guarantee features the PV addendum, which was previously only provided with

Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® used on roofs, but now covers Colorcoat Prisma® with the Solid, Metallic and Matt colours too. This includes the use of clip and fix PV modules, which are fitted to either Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® or Colorcoat Prisma®.

The PV modules can be applied at any point throughout the length of the Confidex® Guarantee without invalidating it. When the original PV addendum launched 6 years ago it only covered roofs, it has now been extended to also cover walls for both products. As before, the guarantee still offers up to 40 years protection when used on external conventional building envelope applications such as commercial and industrial properties, and covers both new-build and refurbishment projects.

Speaking about the extended addendum, Peter Barker, New Product Development Manager at Tata Steel commented: “Across several industries, there’s a race to incorporate greener solutions to help to reduce emissions. This is particularly relevant for the building and construction sector, which accounts for 36% of global final energy use and 39% of energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. In this battle, PVs represent one of the best ways for building owners to reduce their carbon footprint. However, to do so, these solutions must be supported by high-quality building envelope products. Now, with the extended Confidex® Guarantee addendum, building owners can do just that.

“The areas where PV clip and fix modules are installed will be automatically covered when registered for the Confidex® Guarantee. The innovative three-layer pre-finished steel, which provides exceptional UV performance and corrosion resistance, can be guaranteed for up to 40 years. This durability has been reinforced by years of real-world testing, as well as our experience offering an identical service on our Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® product. Thanks to the Confidex® Guarantee, building owners of industrial and commercial buildings are able to guarantee long-term, reliable performance all whilst incorporating more sustainable technologies.”

If looking to incorporate PV modules onto a roof or wall using either Colorcoat Prisma® or Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra®, it’s important to remember a couple of things. Firstly, the areas under the PV array must not be considered “maintenance free” and PV arrays must also be installed in a way that allows effective maintenance, with good maintenance records needing to be upheld throughout.

Unlike alternatives, the Confidex® Guarantee creates a contractual relationship between the end client and Tata Steel. In turn, this means property owners aren’t required to navigate complex supply-chains in the unlikely event of a claim. As such, the Confidex® Guarantee offers building owners a more comprehensive coverage against any failure of the pre-finished steel. What’s more, the guarantee features an online registration platform and is easily transferrable should the building ownership change. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the agreement now covers over 50,000 building envelopes across Europe.
